Volta's Middle School utilizes the SEPUP curriculum for Science instruction. It provides hands-on, engaging, and thought provoking activities that encompass societal issues. These issues help to foster and promote students ability to think abstractly and build upon group collaboration. By exposing students to this type of curriculum, they are being prepared for everyday interactions that revolve around the wonderful world of Science.
As a school, our mission is to build upon the talents and cultural capital of all students by providing rigorous instruction that prepares them for college, careers, and the global workforce. We use language and culture to build internal capacity, tolerance, and the global appreciation for the contributions of others and to work towards understanding and developing the ability to work together collaboratively. We provide opportunities that ensure all students are equipped to succeed in, and contribute to, the world they will inherit.
Therefore, in our Science classroom, the philosophy is that all students are capable and open to explore, engage, evaluate, explain, and extend their curiosity, knowledge, and learning above and beyond a typical textbook. Each activity provides an integration of Literacy and Math that evolves into a hands-on lab activity. Their learning is reinforced through multiple modalities and provides opportunities that fill their inquisitive minds.
